Healthy Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream made with only whole food ingredients. Rich with chocolate and healthy enough you could eat it every day!
Healthy Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 2 cups pitted frozen cherries
- 3-4 soft medjool dates, pitted
- 2-3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3/4-1 cup cup almond milk
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a high powered blender. Blend on high for a few minutes, using the tamper to push the ingredients down into the blades, until smooth. Use less dates if you want it less sweet, or more. Use just enough almond milk, using too much will make your ice cream runny.
- Serve and enjoy!

Hi Nora, this looks delicious. Have you ever made it in a food processor? Wonder how it would turn out compared to making it in the blender…
Hi Lisa. A blender is the better tool because it will liquify the cherries, dates, and the rest of the ingredients no problem. A food processor will take longer and might not produce a smooth mixture. Hope this helps!
Nora, Thank you for all the great, delicious recipes, especially your chocolate cake. I try not to use all cocoa—trying to forget chocolate, because I know it is not good for my heart (it is a stimulant). So, I use roasted carob powder and a tablespoon of cocoa.
I can’t wait to try this ice cream! Can this be frozen at all?
You are so welcome, Patricia! I hope you enjoy it. Yes, it can be frozen, it just gets very hard so you’ll have to thaw it for some time before enjoying again.
Thanks for sharing! Does it keep long?
It’s best eaten straight away, as it gets pretty hard in the freezer. But it’s possible to freeze it, then eat again, just let it sit at room temperature for a little bit until it softens again, enough to eat. Thanks!
This is my favorite “nice” cream recipe. So good!
Thanks for the recipe. I’ve been making banana fruit desserts almost every night for four years using our Yonanas machine. I am happy to have a chocolate recipe.
Your welcome Trish! I’m thinking about getting a Yonanas machine, they look so fun!
I’m a recent convert to chocolate ice cream – I didn’t like it until very recently (what a weirdo). This looks delicious, will try it soon even though it’s winter here in Australia. Might also make a smoothie out of it 😉
I actually make a very similar smoothie, but I usually add a few cups of spinach as well. ?
Looove it!!! I am an ice cream lover, I mean I can eat it non stop. Your recipe is amazing as it can provide delicious chocolate flavor and creamy texture and keep you in shape at the same time) Will definitely try it!
Thanks Veronica!
