Your mashed potatoes are in need of this delicious EASY vegan gravy, and the best news is they can have it in just 5 minutes!!!

So many vegan gravy recipes out there are rather complicated, with their chopped onions and mushrooms… I don’t know about you, but usually by the time I think about wanting gravy, I’m ready to eat, so I wanted to create a super easy & quick recipe for all my emergency gravy needs!

This easy vegan gravy will come in handy on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and any other holiday! Even if the other recipes you make are complicated, at least this one is not.

Easy Vegan Gravy

This Vegan Gravy is so incredibly easy to make. It's the perfect addition to mashed potatoes and only takes 5 minutes!

Total: 5 minutes
Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients 
 

  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or use tamari for gluten free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour (or use brown rice flour for gluten free)

Instructions 

  • Add all ingredients to a medium sized pot and bring to a boil.
  • Whisk over medium-high heat for a couple of minutes, until the gravy thickens.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes! This gravy keeps well for up to a week in the fridge. Just re-warm, add a little water if too thick, stir and serve.

  2. This is now my go to gravy! Yummy! I use better than bouillon Not Chicken and substituted about quarter cup oat milk to make it creamier. Had it at thanksgiving and everyone loved!

  9. Nora, WOW I have been making vegan gravy since the 90’s, including complex ones with different types of fresh and dried mushrooms… and this is the winner, hands down, for its ease and flavor!

    I also finished it with a bit of Earth Balance (about a tsp) as it thickened for a touch of richness and fuller mouthfeel, and added a little Bell’s seasoning. Thanks for this amazing creation!

  10. Thank you so much for this recipe! I made it on Thanksgiving and again for dinner tonight, both times using the “not chicken” Better Than Bouillon and it’s sooo good! Even better because it doesn’t get a thick film or separate in the fridge like other gravies, it stores and reheats so well. I’ll definitely make this any time I want gravy 🙂

  11. Definitely a contender for the best gravy I’ve ever made, vegan or not. I cannot recommend this recipe enough. I’ve been obsessed with it. It is near perfect as is, but you can’t go wrong adding some freshly ground black pepper. I make it using the better than bouillon vegetable base for the broth.

My boyfriend was traumatized by a chickpea gravy I make that I think is good and usually I have to tinker with the amount of flour to get the right consistency, etc. but this one was perfect exactly as you wrote it.
